Default ST24 lost power....................

its gone flat as a fart!! Any ideas?? Just doesnt want to pull at all. lost 20mph top end too.

It used to redline in every gear, but the revs rise real slow now, it a right pain in the arse, feels like I've got the handbrake on!

Common problem is the secondary valves, underneath the cover on the front bank of cylinders is a control unit, unless its an early unit where its vacuum controled..
Either the unit is playing up or your butterflies in the twin tract manifold are sticking.
Go over to www.fordmondeo.org and do a search for secondaries and you will see what i'm on about.
You can clean the secondaries (butterfly valves) and try that but if the unit aint working it may need replacing, check to see if its pulling the cable ok.

Mine had an intermitent fault with this but this was down to the control unit i was on about.

Good luck

Mike

When my old one went like that it was the internals of the catalytic converter had come loose and where severely restricting the exhaust. apparently its quite common on all mondeos

Cheers lads, I'll have to inspect tommorow. There is a slight rattle that clears after about 3.5k revs, so perhaps it could be the CAT breakin up.

I had the same prob on my Mondy V6 - was the linkage that opens the secondaries - it had come adrift due to a knackered bush - had exact same symptoms on mine and took all of 20 mins to fix, and cost me one 'R' clip. Worth a look just in case.

I agree with SIB, on one of the 5 mondeo v6 2.5's we have had in the family the bush went in the linkage for the secondary throttles. I have also had the problem that the secondary throttle control box failed and needed relacing ( Neil_s off this bb changed his just the other day ) I have also seen the cats breakdown and get sucked into the inlet manifold an ruin the entire engine aswell.

I'd check the secondary throttles, If you get someone to rev it from a standstill when it goes past 3.5 under full load you should see the secondary throttle linkage working. its located under the main throttle body

Good luck

Finally got chance to have a look today! The throttle cable for the secondries had snapped. Manage a bit of a bodge repair untill I've got chance to replace the cable, feels soooo much better now!

Had to take the control box to bits to sort the cable out, does anyone know if the arrangement of cogs sorts itself out?? because the one at the end that turns the plastic which pulls the cable could be put back in many diffent positions. I left mine as far as it would go without any force. Seems to work ok! LOL

Cheers.
