Default 02 Plate Focus 1.8TDCI starting problem

Hi, I have a problem with my focus. While driving home on the motorway on Friday the car broke down, the glow plug coil light started flashing and the engine died. After about 20 mins the engine restarted and I managed to get off at the next junction before the same thing happened again. The AA came out and towed me home stating it was probably the fuel pump or injectors. The next morning I managed to drive the car to my brothers house and once again the engine died. It now won't start at all.

Does anyone have any ideas what the fault is likely to be. Having done some research some people were suggesting it might be the in tank fuel pump. Does the TDCI have an in tank pump? Or isn't that just a fuel gauge unit in there?

Any help would me much appreciated the car was a great car with only 80k on the clock would be a shame to break it if it is something simple to fix.

Thanks

The mercanical fuel pumps on the engines are very common for going wrong. Is there an engine light on the dash??

The only light on the dashboard was the coil light when the car broke down which was flashing. There are no lights on it now. Someone suggested changing the fuel filter as I'm not sure when it was last done. They also suggested trying to start the car when the filter is off. Apparently I should see fuel squinting out if the pump is working. Not sure if this is advisable or true though to be honest.

First of all I would get it checked for fault codes, it could be many things so best not to start guessing.

yeah id get codes read first before throwing money at it.quite common on tdci focus is the cam sensor packing up which is a cheap fix.could be injectors, could be pump, could be blocked fuel filter, could be egr.get codes read and go from there

if its a TDCI then its not a mechanical pump and most likey the cause of the issue along with injectors.

TDDI had mechanical fuel pump that would run on pretty anything you threw down it
