Right ive got an intermitant light problem... sometimes when i put my lights on main been it goes dimm, and no headlights, though if i put them on sides, i get a really low high beem, not very bright! its a pain in the ass, coz i only does it sometimes, ive tried swoping the relays about to no sucess... and now im completely confussed to wot code relays should go where??? so could someone plz tell me wot codes and colours are on there relays, its the 4 little ones at the back left hand side im after... I went down ford and they didnt have a clue, plus the haynes manual is useless...!
Have any of u had problems with light relays or the actual light switch?
cheers!

You sure the problem isn't an earthing problem? Try taking the earth off one of the bulb sockets and just put in a wire straight from the back of the bulb earth to a bare bit of metal (Battery -ve terminal is probably best.). HTH

I am fairly sure you will find it's down to a dodgy earth, either on the relay or on the bulb itself. If it was a switch or a relay problem the lights would be more likely to not work at all or flicker rather than just go dim.

you have 2 earthing points - on the inner chassis rails - make sure all surface's are bright metal, then grease up,but back together.
clean up buld hold connectors - mine were burnt out , so put new ones on.
the stalk switch, that controls the lights, does go wrong - mine is on its 3rd one now.

replying to the series 2 lights i had the same problem on my car i replaced relays and checked fuses but the problem was still there it wasnt till i checked the fuse box and found some of the wires loose where the relays fit in. <eg the relays have spades on them and the fuse box has the female connectors when i looked at these i found some of them to be corroded or bent once i cleaned these everthing worked fine.
this may not be the case on your car but i hope it helps.

lift the fuse board out and there are 3 screws securing the fuse box to the bulkhead. If the fuse board has started to go I would change it or as happened to me keep fixing it for 6 months as various problems arise and then when its soo bad change it
Arse of a job too.
