My Father had a V50 T5 R-Design for 4 years, I got to drive it for the last 2.
It was bell built and the interior felt like a very nice place to be.
All the doors had a quality feel to them. Always felt heavy and closed with a satisfying clunk.
The ignition switch was to the left of the instrument cluster and I always thought it was a great idea!
Unsure what brakes you would have on the 1.8. The T5 should have been a Focus ST in drag so it had the Focus ST 320mm front brakes. As you can imagine it stopped on a 5pence.
Unfortunately though the links between the V50 and the Focus end there. Although it shares the same chassis it drove nothing like a Focus. It had rock hard suspension yet was quite understeery. Nowhere near as point and shoot as the Focus ST. It never gave me any confidence to really give it some.
The steering wheel was huge and the seats offered no support at all. I could never get comfortable in it and the pedals had no feel.
The infotainment system was rubbish and couldn't be upgraded or have an aftermarket unit fitted.
BUT I wouldn't say it was a bad car. My Father went from an ST220 (well two) to his V50 thinking it would be a mature Focus ST and it just wasn't.
I actually just dug out a few pictures of it when it was brand new.

If I could get hold of a T5 AWD, stick some Focus ST recaros in there and sort out the suspension it would probably be my perfect every day car.

Derv or petrol? The 2.0 d sport I had was a great all rounder plenty quick enough for a big car like a van with the back seats dropped loved the motorway mid 50's mpg at 70-80 high 40's 90-100
If I had another I'd have the d5 more power better engine
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291741167308
Don't buy this one my old one it hasn't sold since I chopped it in it started running on 3 and smoking when cold so got rid straight away doesn't look like they found the problem as it was listed previously for 4500 with 4 new injectors just fitted

If its like most volvos I'd invest in shares in petrol companies cos you'll be forever at 1. Everyone I've had, or drove n people I know all say the same "Shit fuel consumption"..Other than that I really couldn't fault em

Wahay!! I've lost my Virginity!!
Petrol is best for these. We had a 2ltr psa diesel. Expected DPF change is due at 75k !! We chopped at 65k. Look for steering rack leaks too. 1.6 PSA diesel is the troublesome turbo ones , although serviced regulary ( more than the schedule) and they stay fine.
