Default some advice on letting a car go..

hi all,

not a huge poster on here but always having a look, anyway if its ok with you guys id like some advice from people who may know..

i own a highly modified mk3 fiesta, pretty much my first car, owned for over 12 years now. spend a small fortune on it but wouldnt have changed it for the world. great fun had in it over the years and met many great friends through it all. as im sure many of you have too.

im a couple of years into building a model a hotrod and since then ive not used the fiesta since 2012. taking it to holland for a car show was the last thing i really wanted to do with it. since then my interests have changed in cars and ive also got my first house and kind of grown out of the modified car circle, which leaves me with the fiesta which i dont use at all anymore, and cant really see me using again. ive got many great memories in the car and i wash it and run it round the block every couple of months.

i think the time is right to let it go, but i simply dont know the right way to let it, try and sell it as a whole? the car has not mot/tax. needs a tiny but of welding on the d/s floor area, (arches/petrol tank all replaced and solid). but with all modified cars theres bit i live with which someone else could sort out for themselves. i just dont think there would be any interest in todays market for a car like this..

or break it? the engine is a nice spec, throttle bodies, internals ect ect/ maybe try and sell that as a whole package as it currently runs and drives? ive never broke a car before so unsure how well bits go, there are a few parts on there i could see people being interested in? it just seems daunting doint it. once you start theres no way back..

ill add a couple of pictures so you can get the idea |:

sorry to waste your time if its something you have never had to do, but maybe some of you guys have been in the same sitiuation before,

cheers

I bet that looked awesome back in the day but like u said it looks real dated now. Be such a shame to break it after all the work u put in, maybe like Steve Darnell has just done with his "d rod" strip it down and build it back up a different way

For a show car that fiesta is very well done, but its a very niche car now, there aren't going to be too many people wanting a body kitted fiesta. Maybe the best way to do it would be to sell the engine box, ecu and nitrous kit as a package, then et what you can for the shell and the rest of it. Just guessing though.

Is that the "but it's not a Golf" car from the advert?

I guess it depends on your position to do so, but breaking would be the better financial option. If it was me, I'd sell it whole but that's because I couldn't be dealing with hundreds of people and al the aggro that would go with it. Plus, I know I could spend the time I would have doing it, working myself and earning more money.

loving the chopped and channelled 'A'. Bet that was knocking around in my day. Even less practical than the Fez and to be legal you will have to sort out mud guards, engine cover etc. And I never see much point in building a car unless you can drive it on the Queen's highways.

Sell the Fez whole...you don't sound like it's financially urgent so now's a good time to list it at a fair price and hope to get a buyer before the end of the Summer.

Could be that someone would be keen to restore the 'outside' to stock - effectively changing the identity and putting their own stamp on it without having to discard all your great work on the running gear and (can't see it in the pics) interior.

Sell it as a whole. Like you said its outdated now so i think you'd struggle more to sell it in bits.

If I had to drive that Fiesta around I think I would die of embarrassment

It's a lot easier to let go of something when you have something else better to replace it, which you do! So if you can find someone who wants to buy it, don't think twice

I quite like it, wouldn't pay what is worth but would happily take it to shows etc, it's part of modifying history and would be a shame to see it broke up

Another reason for keeping it is the price you would get for it - 1500 at a push?

It's a car of its time and show cars tastes seem have shifted from flamboyance leaving you with something that has consumed money but now worth not a lot. Get it broken and scrap the shell. Difficult to do do with that level of investment. You could just keep it and leave it in the corner. Mates done that with his Zetec Turbo Fiesta, just rolls it out for an MOT each year

its not to every ones taste , id sell it whole and if no luck break it . your never get back what you put into it . A 17 year old may go for it but they tend to go for New now .

Or take the fancy bits off it and track it .

Stick a ST badge on it ,you never know

if the shells good then that could be reused to rebuild a rotten car into

Could do, if there's interest. Struggle to shift shells normally to the point we gave up trying and just weighed them in.

Biggest hurdle is the bodykit and the colour, if someone can see past that it looks a really good car. Interior is leary but I like it.

Me personally I don't know what I would do. For what's it's owe you your never going to even make back 10%. But then there's a lot of bits that would be worth more individualy and all add up to a bigger total of Ł but it's how long your willing to wait to sell it all. The shell in my eyes has to many 'individual' mods to be use to anyone for a rebuild of a rotter and the interior I think you will be stuck with but engine suspension nos kit brakes lights etc would probably make more than selling the car complete. Like I said it's all down to you.

Just my 2p

Your best bet is get a standard shell and use the engine/box to make a track car to sell on.

The seats might have some value on their own.

thanks for replies, the thing is ive kept if for 3 years now just sat there. and to be honest i wont use it again. with the hotrod being built from scratch i dont have the room time or interest to store it anymore..

im looking towards breaking it, reasons are that for me to well it as a whole, it would need some work for an (legal) mot. and cant see many people taking a car like that on as a project, its too individual to myself and the time when it was built for to be anything that would impress a ford purist.

the problem is i dont know value of ford parts, ie, the engine is a nice spec, throttle bodies, megasquirt, innovate ect ect. runs well and is complete for a decent conversion in any old ford. where the hell do you value these bits??

other parts on the car.. air ride. nitrous. morettes and lights ect im sure would go in various directions.

im sure i would be left with the interior and the shell. which is actually a shame as the shell is dam soild apart from a tiny patch that needs attention in a footwell. this is where i would just have to bite the bullet and ebay them with no reserve?

the numberplate might be my saving grace. tbh if i could 2k back from absolutely everything i would be satisfied. its never been about the money ive had a fantastic time in it over the last 13 years..

If in doubt about pricing, use eBay and let the market decide what it's all worth. Just sent your reserve at the lowest you'd be happy with and let folk bid away.

The Eastern Europeans and other foreghners love this sort of thing, just look at Bernie and leepu! I'd have a look at what country's are into this and ship it over there and sell it, may get a lot of money. Or work out what country likes cars like this and advertise it on there websites and there eBay and ship it over there when sold. The yanks do that sort of stuff all the time.
