I've only ever seen them with colour coded, perhaps this suffered m3 mirrors back in the day and all they could get hold of was the non painted type to replace them

Pretty sure the early 1987/88 came with black but you could have coloured as an option

Chap round the corner from my mums had a red D plate car with black mirrors. I had always assumed they had been replaced at some point as the poor thing was very neglected.

I've never seen them with black ones either, doesn't look right in my eyes and I'd want them colour coded. Nice looking example that though

Not looked at the link, But I bet the car is fitted with electric mirrors.

To answer your question, No not all came colour coded during the first 2 years. You can find C, D & E plate S2 with black mirrors.

Early on if you opted for electric mirrors they wont be painted.

It just doesn't look right. Been the top of the range model in its day you would of thought it would of had colour coded mirrors.

I might have to look through my RS brochures and see what it says about them.

As said above, i was on series 2 stand at the RSOC national day a few years back and the was a D reg there whos owner told me he had it from new with the unpainted mirrors, pretty sure it had plastic trim down side to which looked horrid imo.

Pretty sure it was the first couple year run, also some having non coloured rear spolier like XR3i and some really early cars didnt have Recaros as standard.

I had a look in one of my rs brochures the other night and it had black mirrors.

I knew about xr3i seats been fitted on the early ones.
