I had a saff and 3 door at the same time. The saff is the best by far .

I have a 3 Door and a 4WD Sapphire.
Sapphire is much more refined and comfy, even with same power output.
Put the 3 Door gets the looks etc.
Both are great cars for fun

4x4 mt75 gearchange is piss poor compared to a 2wd saph or 3 door T5
whole car feels rubbery squidgy compared to 2wd

3 door raw to drive compared to saph 2wd-for me too the 2wd saph takes the best driver accolade and i have had one or two...

Yeah the mt75 feels crap compared to the t5, t5 you can actually feel what's going on where as mt75 could be disconnected for all I know.

Ahhhhhhhh this old chestnut.

I would be shit scared of a 2wd saff when flooring it around corners.

I think the cossie 4x4 set up is ok considering its old technology. Ive only ever had the rear end of my saff twitching a few times cause it just grips.

Would love a escos though they just look so mint imo.

For me, Sapphire was a better handling car than the 3-door both as standard. Not tried the Escos to drive in comparison but preferred the rwd Sapphire to the 4wd Sapphire

( as a footnote, ignoring the Escort for a moment and just out the Sierras, apparently the 2wd Sapphire was the favourite of the SVE development drivers )

Question Wilson once compared the gear change in a 2wd saph to a tractor, then said that's a bit unfair to tractors!

I don't get how it can be slated other than you have to change slowly, some people just prefer a plasticy-feeless change.

He just strikes me as a salesman so hardly surprising tbh.

Hi Glenn, no problems in the dry even with 450 bhp and 2wd, dry road power slides are controllable but in the wet lethal! That is the only advantage of your 4wd but not in the dry.

Agree its not the most slick gear change but the T5 is still super strong.

Nothing puts a bigger smile on your face and gets the ticker going than when it's a little cold and a tiny bit damp out and your giving it all its got up the road and it's still going out in 4th lol RWD

Have to agree. Ive owned them all. Stage 3 escort cosworths are incredibly disappointing. Ive owned a 550bhp 3dr and 500+ escorts and my stage 3 2wd sapphire drives better than all of them.

I must say the 2 escort cosworths I have driven handle astonishingly well (both had gaz golds
Etc) and were similar power outputs around 385bhp. I was totally disappointed with the power delivery, saph all the way!!

Why is an escort disappointing power wise? I guess it weighs about the same as a 4x4 sapph and has the same drivetrain losses. Or is a 4x4 sapph also disappointing then? Of course a 2wd sierra will be faster because of less weight and less power loss in the drivetrain.
