Yeh didnt they. Its just a shame that this car will never get used as it should. Its also a shame these cars are out of reach for the proper ford enthusiasts.

Collectors stuff now RS500s, they had other ones cheaper didn't they? If you want a cheaper one North Yorkshire RS spares were advertising one on facebook on behalf of someone for 60k.

Soon rs500's etc will be forgotten about as they will all be taken away from anyone who isn't a millionaire and put into a private collection.

I can see their prices falling!

One thing that sticks out for me in that ad is the price of the recent service! Ł4,200! Does it look to anyone else that someone's taking the piss due to the value of the vehicle?

I can get the value of the car, like it or not it's supply and demand. They have collec table status and for a multi millionaire collector it's a badge of honour paying the most for a car.

I work on alot of cars for collectors and yes as the prices rise so does the costs of servicing and parts.

Mercedes are a prime example a gullwing is now a millon pound car and the parts prices have increased.

Ł500 for a 3dr/500 nos gearknob is stupid but if its going on a 100k car is it?

Prices on all classic and vintage cars are all on the up due to property growth slowing.

The service costs could be more than just oil and a filter lol it could be recommissioning parts ect which is more than likely the case .

Quite a few of the 500's have sold for 85k plus and a few over 100k .

Look at saffs a shell 4 years ago was worth fuck all now I have seen them sell for 3k +

Its a crazy would at the moment with all retro cars I mean who would of thought a RS1600i in good order would be a 10k+ car

Spot on Jay.

New cambelt full oil service box diff etc flush cooling system fuel tank. Brakes the list goes on and on.

Also seals go hard wheel bearings fail sometimes its better to use a car a bit than not at all.

Hence why i buy on condition not mileage.

A very good point! But I think Glenn was trying to say it could be bought by someone who will just store it away instead of regular driving. Probably more chance it will be seen as an investment rather than a mode of transport.

I agree you never see rs200's mentioned on here, I hope they do come down in price a bit but I really doubt it tbh I think the mould has been set price wise.

Thing is are all the collectors older people who grew up watching them race? The now younger generation has no idea what so ever what an rs500 is and would no way pay money for one lol. As time go's on will they drop in price as people will simply have no idea or clue what they are other than it being an old ford Sierra

Any 30 year old car with 6k on the clock will be purchased as an investment or museum piece etc rather than to drive to the shops and back. If you want one to drive you'd be better off getting one with more average mileage on. I agree that cars are there to be driven but also due to the rareness understand that it would be crazy to do so.

If I was spending 100k on an old Sierra I would expect it to not have rust under the bonnet..... Looks like it has bubbled nastily as well.

That will happen most cosworth enthusiasts are older let alone the millionaire collectors. Like you say most petrol heads these days are more interested in semi quick everyday cars and don't give a toss about an old ford Sierra.
