Where is your cossie just now?
As long as someone cares about something, whether they drive it 6 month of the year, 2 month of the year or it goes to a couple of shows a year they can still be an enthusiast.
The fact is if people didn't store these cars or use them and spend an absolute fortune on maintenance/rust prevention, you would never see really mint examples.

Thing is are all the collectors older people who grew up watching them race? The now younger generation has no idea what so ever what an rs500 is and would no way pay money for one lol. As time go's on will they drop in price as people will simply have no idea or clue what they are other than it being an old ford Sierra
People are dreaming if they think any of these cars will drop back to the old price levels of the past.
I don't get the obsession of people moaning about the price of other peoples possessions and trying to dictate what they do with them.
The market sets the value, the market is saying that's what modern classics now command and if a buyer had that kind of disposable cash they are hardly fools are they, as is being claimed. Most current buyers of these cars are self made people and know the value of a quid.

If that was the case then why are the scrapyards not now full again of £50 Model T Fords? and 1920s Bentleys as the people who used to like them when they were new are all long gone.

I do agree to a degree as whenever I take the saff out it get swarmed by 30 and 40 something year old guys drooling over it with fond memories but what has suprised me is the amount of youth giving it the thumbs up or taking pics on their smart phones. Either they know what it is or wonder why some old twat with a grey beard (me) is driving down the road in that old banger..

It's the Silverstone classic car auction next weekend some nice cars there. Capri brookland with less than a thousand miles on and a Lancia integrale with a few hundred miles that's where my money would be going.

But these cars are creating their own 'legendary' status and appeal simply by becoming £100,000 collectables. Regardless of their heritage, as others have said, people won't remember that in the future. People don't remember Ferrari 250GTOs racing either, but they've long been associated as being collectable and, with it, hugely expensive to buy. It doesn't matter if they are worth it or not. Do you think a 1960s Ferrari is that nice to drive? Or a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda worth over $2,000,000 isn't a bit crap?

Your not really comparing an RS Sierra to a 250gto are you. Even my mum would no the name Ferrari 250gto! Ask her about a cosworth and she may say I think my son has one

They are an iconic car, hence the leap on prices, why is anyone questioning it when its a fact. They are close on 30 years old so not trading on recent short lived fame.
Grannies and spotty apprentices are not buying them, wealthy people are, and there are far more of them than available cars.

when was the last time you see joe public with a RS200? Last one of those i see for sale was a Joe Macaris in london for 230k.
And to be honest the cars he sells are not that nice. But rhis is what the rich guys are spending their money on.

So who buys model T Fords these days then? the escort popular of the 1920s? not many 90 year old car buyers around these days, so based on your theory they should all be ending up on the scrappage scheme now as the demographic buyers for them are virtually all long dead.

Someone called me saying the car had been on axel stands all its life in a carcoon and the wheels haven't been refurbed....totall rubbish

They've gotta talk the price up somehow mate!
I'm sure it's still a nice car but you've got to love the imagination of some folk!
