The first thing to do is ask the the ecu what it thinks is wrong
I would do this on the l8 not the l6

All you require is an led and a 600 ohm resistor and a small amount of wire

The ecu's DO NOT have a keep alive memory so all fault codes will be cleared every time you turn the ignition off.
What I suggest you do is make the tester as per schematic, fit it to the car diagnostic plug, crank engine for 10 seconds release key. If the ecu has any codes it will flash the led. If you aren't getting any codes test the system by unplugging the air tempo sensor.
You will then get the open circuit ACT code . If you don't get any codes you either have an ecu set to pectel datastreme or you've done something wrong
