Default Mk5 transit problem

Looking at buying a mk5 recovery truck. It has an issue where it looses power sometimes but then clears. Very intermittent he says sometimes doesn't happen for weeks.
Any ideas what it could be or how much it would be to fix?

Could be a fuel pump?? Ive had both mk5 and 6 trannys where they have been flat as a fart and when you road test them they seem to hold back and jerk. Changing the fuel filter has always cured them.

For what they cost its worth trying.

I always fill the filter up with fuel before fitting it.

It's air in the system, when i had mine i found knocking it down a gear sharply and revving the tits out of it cured it

check around the filler next on the tank and the feed and return pipes between tank and pump they are common for perishing and sucking a little air in at random until finally causing a non start, mechanically the mk5 transit is a bullet proof machine of a van and although i have moved onto a mk7 the smiley will always be liked by me ha ha
