Default Quick question with this Pistons

Hi do you's think this arrow is the direction of what way it goes in? Normally they are on top of the Pistons and are directed to timing belt but this am assuming Point to front of engine? Name: 50639484-0178-4557-8E2A-2FF30F2EF418_zpskgxcdms6.jpg

I would say for direction of rotation. Front of engine sounds logical unless somebody knows better?

Don't know how hard it would be to get in contact with cosworth. And the are forged why would that make a difference?

These are the Pistons when I got them new roughly about six years ago I pulled them out of the engine to change the damage rod.

You're going to have to put a 90 degree twist in the rods to get that arrow to point forward.

Its fwd,

The only difference I can see is the skirt looks like it has a no symmetrical cut out to miss part of the crank? Valve cutouts look the same from the pics. Which way round were they before?

Rob.

Ha that's the problem I can't remember didn't mark them when I pull them out. I stripped it then took awhile for the rods to turn up.

Ahhhh, that makes more sense! I would go with arrow to front of car by default but have a look to see if the skirts are cut out to avoid a crank counter weight. I can't see any other differences. However the piston pin offset might not be equal, the rod end could be closer to the intake valve or exhaust valve if the offset is not equal.

Rob,

Thanks rob we had a quick look at the pin to see if it was offset but we'll have another look. You still have your escort?

Or good glad you didn't sell it. Be good to see it. Took it on a track day at knockhill and suffered from oil surge with having no baffles in sump. Took out the crank and no1 rod (heat damage) manage to drive the 3hr drive home no problem.

The bigger valve cut outs are inlet side

I would say the Arrow points to the thrust side of the bore
Standing at the front of the engine the thrust side is on the left.
This is proberbly because the gudgeon pin is offset on a 4x4 piston to stop piston slap when cold.
Cheers tim

Awesome mate, bet yours was a bit of a handful at a track day! Bit of a weapon before the problem though!
