Chaps, fitting a basic-ish cat 1 car alarm - is that doable? Im confident with cars and wiring etc and thought Id be able to save over a £100 fitting charge and fit it myself to a car with no alarm on there at the moment.

Also, if I fit a cat 1 by my self will it be insurance approved?

Before you start it, probably worth checking with your insurance co that they're happy it's not got a professional fitters certificate...

I don't think it would be insurance approved.

I think for £100 I wouldn't risk the hassle, let them drill the bulkhead and fit the grommets and worry about reliability.

The actual wiring in would be simple I think.

Wiring in alarms is easy. Doing it properly, hiding essential parts (not in the same place 99% of alarm fitters place them) etc is the difficult part - well actually not difficult.. but time consuming.

for the sake of a 100 quid i would just get a professional to do it and that way you will at least get a certificate
