Has anybody had any good or bad experiences using easy fit CV boots (the ones that have a split down the middle that you glue together after putting on the driveshaft). I'm a bit skeptical but it would be great to be able to change boots without having to loosen so much as a single nut or bolt.

would always fit the real sleeve type, have used the type you mention but dont like them one bit

As above. They are not great. It is pretty easy to just do the job properly.

Toyota used to supply these types of boots for the front drive shafts on hi lux.s. they were a chew on to fit.

If it's last minute before an MOT then yes.
Otherwise fit the proper ones.
