Default engine management light....

....would or could an mot advisory(but still passed) of a worn cat converter be responsible for an engine management light coming on or is it more likely to be something unrelated....?

If it has a lambda sensor after the cat then it will bring the eml on if it's not working to its full efficiency.

....if I disconnected the sensor would that prevent the engine management light coming on and going into limp home mode?

No it will still come on, no way round it really unless you get a lambda cheater kit that you use with decats etc but not guaranteed it will work. Is the light definately on for the emissions?
