When we take euro 4.5 / 5 trucks to mot they don't even test them now as it dose not even register on the machine lol. They just check to make sure the mill light is not on

The modern diesels that won't register on the machine will often register if you rev the engine up and down.

Only way you could possibly test a modern truck would be on a rolling road so it was working hard enough to produce nox

Does this mean I have a healthy engine then?

I only use Shell V-Power diesel and do oil changes every 3-4k.

Just had my A3 mot'd and it says its got an oil leak and steering rack is oily.

I have recently spent almost 6k having the driveway done, if the thing was leaking oil a. Id know about it and b. It would be parked on my driveway!

Also, one thng that was an advisory last year that i have not touched was not this year...

True this, im also a tester, better to have seen and advise than not advise as it looks as if you have not seen/tested correctly, being a tester your damned if you do and damned if you dont, if you advise things people moan that you have picked up on something, but if you had missed it then same person would also moan that its not been picked up on

You can have an oil leak and not find a drop on the drive...... yet. May have spotted it at the early stage its misting over the undertray and not started dripping yet, cant see why you would have a problem with this tbh, have a look under the car and check if theres no leak then ask them. As for the item not advised this time but was last time round it depends as its down the tester and what the advisory was even for

Few years ago took my sister's Fiesta for MOT and asked the tester to try find cause of an oil leak while it up on the ramps, as I couldn't easily see it.

The Fiesta passed MOT with an oil leak advisory!!!

Oil leaks can be near on impossible to pin point especially if its been leaking a while and a lot of the engine components are wet. Its not our job to find the cause we just make you aware theres a problem and it only becomes a failure if it contaminates the brakes so the tester has done everything right!

I wasn't surprised, it just made me chuckle as I told tester before hand, anyway I only asked him as tester I go to is a fair helpful chap and usually highlights problems before they become serious, which is the whole point of advisories in the first place, I remember he spotted an iffy drive belt few years back on one of our cars, saves a break down.

I work in an mot station and your find even if its wet under there if it looks oily there advise it, mot's are getting ridiculous now days, as silly as you can have a massive slice in a tyre but if you can't see the cords without touching it with your hands "it's ok WTF" lol

Diesels are getting a lot cleaner and some of them life mercs you can't even rev them enough to make the machine move

We had a mint mk5 escort come in last year and all the rack, arms, mounts, subframe the lot was powder coated black, and it was raining outside when looking underneath it all looked like it was slightly coated in oil, so one of the testers had advised it with an oil leak

The owner went mentle he had never had an advisory on that car since he bought it, it never got driven in the rain and he just got caught out in it on the way to the station
