assuming the motor turns over by hand, stick a fresh battery on it, build a bit of oil pressure then fire the thing up!

Interesting about the hidden lights. This has recently appeared on the drive of a house near me and if you look behind the grille - It also has lights.

I would be surprised if it wasn't an unmarked car.

I'd guess Norfolk or Lincolnshire Constabulary.

Once you've got the V5, you can apply to the DVLA for all the history documents, so you'll find all the previous owner details etc.

SHES ALIIIIIIIIVE!

I kid you not, I put a battery on, mate cut a key, checked the oil...... 2 turns & she fired straight up!!!

Runs perfect & quiet as a mouse!!

Power steering feels a little heavy but otherwise all seems ok so far.

Will pump the tyres up & take it for a run later..... Fingers crossed.

The car was bone dry when I got it so topped it up but it's not circulating & leaking somewhere so can only presume the water pump was knackered hence why it was parked up.

Lovely motor had one of these about 13 years ago ,they don't half move for a big lump. Sold it to a couple of lads from Manchester and it was used in an armed robbery a few weeks later. Had serious crime squad on my case for a while ha ha . I was sure the top speed was over 150 mph but looking at some specs on net it says not . I did have mine approaching 150 on the clock ( obviously on a closed private road ha ha ) but perhaps that was closer to 140 in reality with the 10% error reading. Mine was on a J in blue to and think they were 30 grand when new .

Ford also twin turbo'd a 2.9 12v as a possible new model instead of fitting the 24v. Not sure how many they did but my dad had the engine, used to work for a yard in London docks where all the scrap from boreham ended up, still got the manifolds some where with the ford stamp on them.
A guy in the mid 90's fitted a rs500 8 injector engine into one of these and converted it to 4wd, was featured in fast ford mid 90's.

Ford also did several supercharged 12V 2.9 xr4x4s, a quad cam v8 xr4x4 and a few 24v xr4x4's pretty cool really and a shame they never followed through!

Most were scrapped, my father owns one of the supercharged xr4x4s and was offered the V8 quadcam, I can vividly remember going to see it with him when I was about 12.

Most of the cars which were not scrapped had ford as their first owners and hire companies as their second, which was pretty smart really as we all know that a hire car gets the best durability testing of all lol I think the department in the late 80's was called SVO (special vehicles operation) or something similar.

More impressive was the fact that Ford made spare parts for the cars which were sold on.

I think most prototypes are scrapped these days as its more tax friendly for them.
