Default 4x4 cossie rear discs

Hi Guys,

I need to replace my rear discs on the sapphire. I am running the 4x4 rear discs and callipers, but can only really find EBC discs or discs from Burton power branded National Sport.

ideally I would go for the 325mm conversion but funds don't allow at the moment so just need to replace the standard discs.

whats everyone using/recommend?

I would go Burtons. I have never been impressed with EBC. I would avoid all the grooved stuff as they just seem to cause noise. There is a ford specialist on here that people recommend, I will try to find the name.

thanks I have never had a problem with EBC but wanted to avoid them this time.
the ones from burton are also a lot cheaper around £100ish instead of £160ish.

that would be helpful. I have looked at the normal places like reyland, matt lewis, R and B etc but cant see any good quality standard discs, just then upgrade kits.

I was just searching and was going to say Matt Lewis. Have you spoken to MT and MK Motorsport and see how cheap you could get the upgraded 325mm kit for as they may be cheaper than the bigger suppliers. I think I was in the £300's but the disc size is massive in comparison. I know you said that the money was a factor though. Oddly enough I have some good fronts that you could have had for nowt shame not the rears.

the reyland kit is £425, so when compared to the £100 discs from burtons not quite so affordable for now.

not sure about the MT and MK kits, but would guess them to be about the same cost, as the cost is really in the discs and bells.

cant you get them from motor factors anymore?

Had no difficulty getting a set a couple of years ago same day from euro. GSF, GT etc all gave prices and claimed they had stock too.

yes you can get them from euros, but they are only a budget disc, and although don't want to pay for the conversion I do want a good quality disc, that will handle track use, which I doubt a cheap motor factor disc would.

They don't do as much as you think
And what are you converting? On my standard Sierra vents on the rear was overkill with a little lightening

You can upgrade the rear to use the standard 4x4 calliper but with a 300 or 325mm disc.

due to the track use, and going for a bias pedal box i am of the opinion that the brakes can never be too good.

It's only rear discs, unless you're doing some serious track work or using slicks etc standard discs of a decent brand will be fine

Totally agree with stevie. I have mintex on mine not expensive either.
national sport discs are good too but twice the price. Good pads will make the biggest difference.

I had Delphi discs on the rear of my old 4x4 saph with DS3000 pads and my car got used hard and I never had an issue.

If you were really adamant about not using normal discs, you could probably get some Wilwood discs and bells and machine them up to suit your fitment

Nothing wrong with the national sport grooved discs from burtons. I am using them front and rear with ds2500 and they seem fine.

For the rear, fancy pads arent needed, the likes of DS3000 would be crap as they'd never get any heat into them.

RC5's would be better if you really had to use an uprated pad.

Ive got Tarox G88 vained with Ferrodo DS2500 pads.

Overkill tbh

Genuine Motorcraft discs (around £80 fro dealer) and a decent set of pads and you wouldn't notice a difference.

I only bought them to match the fronts
