What's do you rate for a clutch to hold 500bhp on a 2wd?

Also still using standard clutch cable.

I had an Alcon 6 plate paddle in mine at 400bhp - no issues whatsoever

Not BHP but torque you'll need it for pal, I had a AP 6 Paddle on my Evo & Cossie, heavy in traffic but worked, I think organic are better tbh. Hope that helps a little.

The only reason i went for Alcon 6 paddle was because the AP 6 paddle was too heavy for me - having two knee ops on my left leg dont help matters much

It is heavy the AP Ran, I remember being stuck in traffic on the M6 once, shit they're hard work then just nudging a few yards in traffic

The Alcon felt more like a standard clutch.

What are Helix like? as never tried them

Was looking at getting a clutch from the States a few years back think it was called Spec or something - all the mustangs lads are running them. Think they have a UK supplier now too

Reason I'm trying to find out is because my old car had a reyland clutch rated to 500bhp I think it's Ap and helix mix, god it was heavy. Nearly was un-driveable.

Ran, iirc I had the Helix in my Tommi Mak Sheady built for me, great clutch and almost stock in feel, if Mark reads this thread I'm sure he'll clarify if it was Helix.

Reyland dont make clutches mate. They simply get the kit from parts and sell it on

Reyland do a very high clamp helix but you need to go hydraulic as they are very heavy. Either centre push hydraulic or lever type.

Being 2wd you can get away with less probably, especially if the diff is a little worn / less likely to lock up and not too sticky tyres but then what's the point of 500bhp. Torque is the bit that spins up the wheels though.

I would use a ap 6 paddle with a helix cover the organic clutch wont survive long with traction and above 400lb . Ap and Alcon have have changed the rating of there pressure plates and there only 340lb so the helix pressure plate is rated to 480lb

As for the hydrolic clutch yes they make it easier but the peddle feel is beyond crap

What is involved in changing to hydraulic if the car is already running an AP 6 paddle clutch? Does it make the clutch pedal lighter as the AP is very heavy?

Machine the side of the box weld a cup to take the rod of the slave

Yes the hydrolic will make it easier but like i say the peddle feel is not great

Change your profile to show a half decent location and people may be able to quote who might be able to help.

It is a fiddly job and I suspect the box does need to come off which means that unless your clutch is perfect you need to consider fitting a new one anyway. Sounds like Ł500 to Ł1000 easily all in

That's what I said. It's a AP and helix mix it was bought from reyland I didn't say reyland made it.

the pedal is alot lighter, but there is a few different combinations you can use, size of master/slave or push rod/ centre push

Always ran AP 6 paddles in my cossies. they're heavy on the foot but only if your legs arnt man enough
hydraulic conversion is a nice luxury though.

Mine runs a Alcon 6 paddle plate and cover and standard clutch cable. I have well over 400 lb/ft and it has never slipped.
