Default Issues with my Focus

So I purchased a brand new Focus Titanium 1.5TDCi end of last month.
I have a few issues with it.

When driving at a constantly speed with very little load from a few miles and then push the accelerator a bit the car jerks harshly as if the engine cuts out for a split second before it picks up and starts to pull.

Also the engine revs jump up 250rpm when changing gear as if my foot is still on the accelerator.

So the car has been into the dealer twice and is due to go back in again this morning.
The dealer has admitted there is an issue, is convinced it's a software issue but there is currently no PCM update available.

They want me to bring the car in once a week for an hour or two so Ford technical can plug into it and play with the settings on it until it's fixed.

I really don't know what to do now. Should I just ask for a refund for the car or should I give it a few weeks to see how they get on?

Sam.

I believe you have to give them 3 attempts to fix it before you have rights to a replacement / refund. What I would do is say you will leave it with them until it is fixed, while you use a courtesy vehicle of the same or higher spec.

The car went in last Thursday for a diagnostics session.
Car went in Yesterday all day to be repaired.
And I'm sat in the dealer again right now while they have another look at it!

Do a bit of research so you know your rights, I would also lay it on a bit that you think it is unsafe as you use it on motorways etc.

Dont worry about it. Its under warranty. Ford have to fix it. Just tell them to keep the car for a week or 2 and give you a courtesy car.

So I've just been out in another one and it's doing exactly the same thing so the dealer are saying it's normal.
Absolutely livid and really not sure what to do now.

So I spoke to trading standards who said I need to persue the finance company for a refund.
Really wish I didn't buy this car.

When you did your test drive before purchase, did the demonstrator car do it? It may well be a normal thing for that car

Not really, the MK1 Focus is fabled for it's reliability.

Modern cars in general are not that reliable, as they got more advanced, it is all the more to go wrong, I don't like the technology anyway, hence why I wouldn't own a modern car.

Various BMW's suffer problems.

Re the OP, could it be a DMF problem?

The problem is they need to make them run on fresh air. We had exactly the same problem with a 1.6 diesel fiesta when stage 5 emissions came out. It's to do with the egr valve. The customer had to live with it till Ford released a pcm update which fixed it. Sorry to say it but diesels are shit these days. They drive shit to meet emission standards. It's why I will never have one. Petrol all the way.

This is what I suspect it is but like you say ford want me to live with it. I'm not entirely happy about it in the slightest.
Mine is one of the first Euro 6 emissions engines.

I had a issue with my new Fiesta ST, got it new on 1st Oct 14 and in the first month of owning it the battery drained four times. I gave the dealer the car and told them keep it until its fixed, they had it a month and did nothing. Gave a letter rejecting the car and two days later a temporary fix was found which cured the problem, had a recall issued back in Jan which was a software update, problem cured. Stick at it hope you get it sorted.

It makes me laugh when people say german cars are better. Ive heard loads of stories about them, mostly about vw audi and bms. A lad i work with said they arnt as good as you think they are. My good friend works in a independent garage and he tells me loads of stories about them. I could make a list but i would be here all day.

New petrol are common rail with the same amount of sensors and expensive parts as a diesel. That's why I never got the 1.0T.

A lad at my work had a mk4 golf. He was coming down the M1 at about 80 ish and he said the engine cut out. He got it to the side of the M way. He tried to turn the engine over and it just locked up. He got the golf recovered to work. Took the spark plugs out and the bores were full of coolent. The water way in the head cracked.

Im not saying ford are the best, just cause i like them i know they have faults.

Its just all these people saying get a german car there better than any other car.

It was only a few years ago everyone was saying Jap cars are the best.

As a mechanic for 18 years I've seen most cars have there faults. I've seen cars people say are shit doing silly miles with no probs and cars people rave about breaking down. the most reliable cars I've ever seen have to be the 4 cylinder e36 bmws. My mate has one on over 300,000 now still drives really nice and smooth and quiet engine. If I didn't have the Cossie id defo go back to e36 bmws.

My mate has a 58 reg vw caddy van. It was getting to be a nightmare to start. Long story sort the injectors were leaking into to engine oil. The injector seats/ cylinder head was worn.

The Vw main dealer wanted 3.5k to fix it.

Cost me 500 quid 4 years ago. It's had 1 set of discs and pads,1 bottom arm,1 exhaust and 3 oil and filter changes. It's never let me down and has been all over the country. Couldn't fault it at all.

Hardly mate. They are now direct injection and coil on plug as well as both cams being vct. Not that being based on the old engine is a bad thing. They run forever and don't give any trouble.
