Default Det Cans

Ive got some homemade det cans currently but im not 100% confident in them and im about to start mapping a friends car... Can anyone recommend a decent yet reasonably priced set that are ready to buy?

Thanks

Doesnt really matter what types you use, if you dont actually know what you're listening for, none will work !

And simple DIY ones are bloody good if you're hearing is good and you do know what to listen for.

Failing that, you're going to need to spend a few hundred in a set that has some detection ability and warnings built in. But even these will still require some manual calibration and listening to ensure they are set correctly.

You'll need to work out the base frequency and how that'll alter with RPM too, for an amateur the homemade cans (with the pickup put in the correct place of course) are best. Is it an N/A or FI car your mapping?

Frequency is directly linked to bore diameter, that's usually the only "knock" parameter most of these detectors require

After that you the user will have to manually calibrate for background noise and adjust any thresholds to suit, where such features allow of course.

If you can hear the valve train ticking/tapping away then you will be able to hear det when it occurs mate.
