Default Polishing ya pipes...!

We all love a polished pipe but on my SL55 i'm struggling to get the exhaust pipes shiny, i'm using the usual Autosol but to no effect, it feels smooth so not sure if the dirt is embedded.

Looks like the chrome plating has worn away?

Possibly mate I have no idea! A lot of sl's exhaust tips appear like this. If the playing has worn away anything to bring them back to life?

You can't do anything with those tail pipes if the plating is damaged/worn. You'll have to get new ones or have them re-plated.

As above, looks like its worn. I always use Mothers Mag & Alloy polish for all my chrome. Way better than what Autosol now is.

Im a total bufty, and rate Mothers as the best.

When I did my bosses SL63AMG I did think the plating on the pipes was quite poor quality. Try not to scrub too hard with anything very abrasive as much as you might want to - like a brillo pad - or else you'll go through it.
Best you can do (what I did) is to get some autosol and scrub that in with an old toothbrush then buff off.
TBH I think the plating has come off as Richie says

Either have them re plated or maybe try painting black for a different look?

Looking at your photos, unfortunately the actual chrome is flaking off so no matter what you try polishing them with the only real answer is new ones or good second hand ones from a breakers.

I think you are totally right, although second hand ones are like hens teeth and sell for loads so will probably just like them or get them replated!
