Can you use a fault code reader to find the problem or is the cosworth to old for that?.
Lol, no, remember they come from a time where engine management was just being introduced, OBD was not even thought of then.
They do have a flash code system, whereby an LED can be connected and the number of flashes denotes the error (The MK1 had a EML), this is not very good and I believe it will only show you if a sensor is open circuit etc.
You need to check what has been said, re the MAP sensor also verify the hose has not come off or split etc.
This is not entirely true and depends on the car manufacturer.
The same ecu used in Lancia's and Fiat's did have a serial interface and data and trouble codes could be read just like "modern" cars. Granted, the trouble codes read by a scanner were the same as the flash codes used by Ford.
The map sensor was removed and another was put in. Checked the pipes all okay and replaced water temp sensor with a new 1. Going to check fuel regarding tonight to see if that is fecked

To me it sounded like a faulty map sensor, if you have put a new one on how is it running now?
