Default Re MAD bhp figures...

We know they are genuine as the top speeds prove it,dont they?....BUT how come they can get the power out of the parts said for ages to have a certain max? ...The eec4 plenum cover for example 520plus bhp, previously said to be no more than 500bhp....the 4x4 exhaust manifold 480plus bhp, previously said to be 450bhp max Are other tuners not building using the best specs(double meaning pun ) ...OR is the dyno that MAD are using over reading?

I think you take a few figures on the net bandied around as rough guidelines far too much as gospel phil.

Parts like inlets dont have X bhp as a total maximum thats ever possible, you just get a law of diminishing returns after a certain point.

Also, it depends if its been port matched etc anyway, not all of them are equal in that respect.

No Chip..as tested by certain tuners....above certain figures required change.

Inlets must have a max They can only flow so much surely?

At what pressure though?

If you were to stuff a nice cool 60psi down a standard cossie inlet from a huge rollerbearing turbo and an utterly massive intercoler then you are going to get more air mass through it than from a T4 on an RS500 cooler for example.

Also depends on the effiency of the engine, if you start upping the CR then you can get more power from the same volume of air, so even though the inlet isnt flowing any more air you can still get more power, especially if using race fuels, as it means you can dial on more ignition advance.

All depends on so many factors that there isnt just one figure that is the utter limit, any tuner saying there is either doesnt understand engines very well or is trying to simplify it for their customers based on some assumptions about what fuel (ie normal pump fuel) they are going to be running etc.

if you look at the variables that control the rate of flow you'll see that it isnt just the diameter of a pipe that dictates the maximum ammount of flow

on a nasp car typically you'll have a larger throttle body to produce 300bhp than you would from a 300bhp blown engine. a lil thing called air velocity comes into play as this is a variable and not a constant.

however I totally agree with this.....

you just get a law of diminishing returns after a certain point

Yep Dave your 178.5 would nave won the recent Daddy thrash won at 176 with a claimed 556bhp. .
Could add MADAde did 185.5 with only 520.
Mine did 183+ with less than 500.
Perhaps MAD's Southern Horses are better fed & hence stronger.

The 520hp engine was dyno'd back to back with another 500hp engine I did, The diff between the engines 520hp was on Opimax worth about 1 dg Ignition and 8mm longer Rods which reduces thrust angle of Rods which reduces loads on pistons and bore hence more power,
Also my HP must be bigger than others as you dont see my Customers complaning my engines are slow , Maybe we should look at other Dyno's over reading rather than the one I use

Phil,
FYI, The dyno at Norris Designs that M.A.D uses is fully calibrated as I too have used it myself many times.

Why is your stage 1 only standard cossie power?

Depends if it 2wd or 4x4. Correct power for 2wd. 220 bhp if its 4x4

Westy: round about that figure for 2wd yes. Less than the 4x4. I have heard rumours that Ford were very conservative with theirs figures and they said 2wd's may well be 215bhp. Dont know how true that is but the factory output that everyone gets told was 204 bhp

Ass Dyno is good enough LOL

We used the same bullshit factor as Karl & mine worked out at 279.4 mph.
Apparently this would be 293.1 if Dingy was your mate.

The original question is pretty stupid Less than 4% variance in power can be made up in plenty of other places.
