Default Vauxhall Frontera?

Considering one as a winter hack and to give the Mrs and I a work horse for dump and Ikea runs as well as something to stick the mountain bikes in the back of.

Being a Vauxhall I won't be inclined to dick about with it as I don't really like them.

Anybody have any experience with them?

I can only tell you that a friend of mine bought one quite cheaply, and had no end of problems with it, maybe it hadnt been looked after very well but he got rid of after just 5 weeks. Said it was the worst vehicle he had ever owned. My
advice would be go Jap 4x4, early Mitsubishi,Suzuki or Nissan examples can be
bought cheaply but are much better engineered.
Good hunting!

Haven't seen any Shoguns/Pajeros in budget. And I also quite like them so the tinkering fingers might be tempted.

Thinking is they are big, cheap, not sought after by sticky fingered folk and being a Vauxhall bits should be cheap. It's intended to be an occasional use shitter not a daily. Looks like a semi decent nick one can be had for under a grand.

Spotted a few Volvo V40's for similar money.

LWB ones are great.

also its the Monterey that is a Trooper (suspension by Lotus)

Very high spec, but ideally, buy a jap import Trooper as they are mega specced and Recaro seats usually

Had a 2.4 petrol for 5 yrs bought to tow the track car around. Shit mpg and slow as feck, struggled up hills and the heater was weak as hell.
5 yrs = 2 tyres, front brake pads, 1 front shock, new rear suspension and an exhaust.
Only changed the oil once as i wasn't bothered about it.
Towed that car all over the country, Brands Hatch, snetterton, knockhill the lot and never let me down.

The only modification I made was to remove the front spot lights to allow the air to flow to the rad.

Just hope the Explorer is as reliable.

Type in on Google" Vauxhall Frontera voted worst car of the year " and have a read. It might help you decide if you still want one.

Terrible, terrible car.

What you want is a Daihatsu Fourtrak.

Lots of farmers/country folk swear by them and hold onto them for years. The forums are full of people saying they wish they still made them as they'd buy a new one like a shot.

Awesome workhorse.

Looked at the other options and it would need double the money to buy. For something to use rarely and do crap jobs with the Vauxhall is still looking an attractive option. Found a few Audi A4 Avants, but was straight away thinking about the parts in my spare bin that could go on so not a good idea.

Not popular but cheap, if it breaks, mend it. If it breaks baddly buy another. LoL

Honestly not bad buses, boring as hell but actually pretty reliable. Mate had one given to him 5 years ago and the oil lights been on for the last three but never had an issue, refuses to break. Looks alright in red, 2.0l 8v vauxhall petrol motor which too be fair to on forever.
Be fine for the winter mate.
Pajeros are great but suffer from batteries and alternators.
Tell you what's a spot in alternative for about a grand is a rav 4, drive great and good off-road if needed.

Honestly I know they had bad reviews but they are a good motor, I had the 2.4 petrol, 2.5 tds and 2.3 td. We offloaded them and they will go most places.

Have you thought about a Honda hrv or cry as there permanent 4 wheel drive

told my dad not to buy one as they are shit, he bought one anyway and had it ten years and it never needed anything except two sets of front brake pads and one set of tyres in that time. my friend bought it off him who is a hooligan and tried his best for 6 months to kill it and it would not die! it did on the spot burnouts for minutes at a time and took it all in its stride. all in all changed my opinion on them lol
