Whip sump plug out to drain oil and if you have one of those magnetic telescope things ..... mechanics best friend pmsl, try that way you might be lucky but assume you will have to bend it to make it able to search along bottom of the pan.

I wonder how much of a big deal it would be if you didn't get it out? Anyone know for sure?

The end has broken off just at the full mark, pulled the tube out to check if it was in there but nope, will be at the bottom of pan for sure

I've read a few post of people leaving them in, in fact one guy with a staph cos found 3 in there when he dropped his pan, lol.

I was hoping someone has had this happen to them and they found a way of getting it out.

just fit a magnetic sump plug and forget about it, the magnet will get it if its moving around in there with the oil

Do you really want to run the engine on the off chance it won't damage anything?

I had an exhaust valve collet make it's way into the oil pump on my mongtego many years back. It snapped one of the gears in half.

I wouldnt be running the car until its removed (guess you aren't anyway), I would say dropping the pan is probably the easiest way of sorting it as im not sure the magnetic telescopic thing will be much good as its a sump plug its not a lot to work with and would take just as little time to whip the pan off. However that will mean dealing with the dreaded Sump Gasket lol

Yes there was and it was intact, so I couldn't figure how it got through.

(unless it was loose, never thought about trying to push it up until now)

if you cant get it with the little telescopic magnet jobbie, might be worth getting a big magnet, speaker or something for instance, and running it around the bottom of the sump to try and pick it up, and work it towards the plug hole.
