Could a Bump start cause a miss fire???

Default Could a Bump start cause a miss fire???

Went to start the cosy today and the battray was flat so rolled it out the garage down the drive and it started up and was miss fireing.took it up the road but would not clear. so i changed the plugs no 1 was coverd with fuel the rest where dry new plugs still no better

car was running perfect last time a used it

what could it be? would A Bump start break anything??

going to do a compression test and go from there

it has been known mate, we had an escort gti in, jumped it one day when battery was flat and it never run right again-we had to swap the ecu and keys in the end-that sorted it! seems strange that it only occured after the jump, an ecu specialist told us that you should only jump with a "spike/surge" protected leads.

sorry re-read your post, youve bump started it by the sound of it, jumping is to use another battery etc, with a bump you should be okay as still only 12 volt.

IF the battery is fooked it will cause a misfire..ie ECU not getting the correct voltage.

low charge

youve got a flatt battery so spark will be weak

you need to drive it a bit or charge the battery

did drive the car up the road and back batt got charged a bit so i could start it again but was still flat i put it on charged and give it a go

Sorry i did bump start the car rolling not jump start

a drive up the road wont charge the battery hardly at all

But is missing very bad not just a slight miss fire

cant really agree with craig,

ONLY on the basis if the alternator was sending 14+v to battery, car shoudl run fine


check leads (both ends, and all sensor plugs

iirc 13.4 or something needed at ECU.

On my escos, my battery was low and i was getting a misfire. Also i have heard this before. Stus ya man tho
