just noticed when sitting in the car with it running that my fuel pump changes tone when working electric windows and the tone pulses with the hazards on. is this the pump knackered or have i got dodgy wiring somewhere. i assumed it was the pump but not so sure now. its escort s1. cheers

It is more than likely you have a voltage drop due to poor wiring and or output of your alternator.
Yet at the same time fuel pumps that are not used as they were designed to be used (Daliy) die in no time.
I hardly use my car and as a result have had two new pumps give up, and it is certainly nothing to do with wiring (Fuel/dirt/religious intervention)
If you have upgraded your loom and eliminated resistance due to voltage drop the answer is the use your car more!
Preventative maintence is the cure.
My Best. Tim.

The pump will quite happily run at 12v, but it will flow less. However the fact there is a volt drop from source...ie alternator to pump of almost 2v. That IS the problem.
That means there is bad wiring somewhere.

thanks for the help. if i rewire it as in the link above does that keep the original fuel pump relay? ie put new relay between original relay and pump? want to make sure it wont put extra load on the original relay as they are getting hard to come by now and dont want it to fry! cheers
