Smile Power problem

Hi Guys

Im njew to this page and any help would be great im cureently buying a ford escort 1986 cabriolet xr3i .

I went and had a look at car and had no fuel in so we put a gallon in and it hadnt been ran for 6months after we put fuel in car started straight away i then popped bonnet and found a oil leak from rocker cover gasket checked oil and topped up.

I toook the car for a little drive and i must say for a xr3i i thought woould be really fast but was shocked how it wasnt is this due to dirty carb or am i just use to driving new cars ?? I was shocked at how slow it was the rev counter also doesnt go past 2000rpm but the engines runs much faster then this im taking this down to dodgey wiring BUT my question is are these that SLOW wudnt pull skin of a rice pudding any help greatly appreciated thanks

The cab is a wobbly heavy thing anyway. What I am confused about though if its a 3i why does it have a carb ??.Ghia cabs had a carb but 3"i" is self explanatory lol.
