0-40w is too thin for a CVH motor. You need to use a thicker oil like Mobil 1 Motorsport which is a 15-50w

i thought it sounded a bit odd when my mate told me,so would 15w50 be better then, what about fully synthetic oil,got to do a quick service on it thursday after work,so changing the oil and filter and fuel filter, also going to clean the plugs aswell and probably put new leads on it aswell

I use Mobil 1 Motorport in mine or the Castrol RS equivelent. Opinion on the correct oil varies though. Personally I wouldn't use anything other than a fully synthetic oil.

Gaps should be 0.8mm on the plus and the fuel filter is on the passenger side inner wing. Might as well do the dizzy cap and rotor arm with a set of leads while you are there.

Yes you can re-use the rubber 1800 CVH rocker cover gasket. This is why I got one last time out . If you know what you are doing valve stem oil seals take about an hour ish. Take the plugs out as it makes it easier to turn the engine by hand. Ensure the seal you are changing has the piston at the top of its stroke to prevent the valve dropping into the copmbustion chamber. Also worth blocking the holes in the head with a rag to prevent dropping a collet down the oil ways. Make sure you have the single piece top hat style seal as these are better than the twin piece ones

I really don't understand why people recommend 0w-40 when a 10w-40 or 10w-50 is more appropriate.

Cheers
