Default How good are supra diffs in 2wd cossies?

Out of interest for those people using supra diffs in their 2wd cosworths, how good are they?
Ive heard they're a lot stronger so can take big power but as an alternative diff how good are they in terms of traction etc?
As good as the Quaife/Bara/ZF etc diffs?
Are they worth fitting? Or better of saving and going for one of the previously mentioned diffs?

Cheers Paul

I would choose one every time over anything based on the stock diff and modified and cheap to replace as there stock. I couldn't break a small case late mkiv diff with 800 hp and 295 r888s.

A mate of mine has one they don't lock up as well as a gripper or a quaife that's for sure but there strong only thing he has broke so far is the mount!
I have seen a few remarks on here now about people breaking the mounting lugs on the rear cover! But to be fair if you don't drive like a knob all the time a good 7.5 gripper diff with shot peened cwp will last mine stood up too 500 ish lb ft of torque for a good 3 years and I'll still use that diff with my new engine when it's back on the road

I have Supra diff in my 2wd Cossie, the car is 450hp and this diff has been okay so far.
Only problem if you are a drifter it does not lock up very well when driving like that, but if you are racing straight its fine.

when I got my old saph to squat and grip it would shit the stock diff everytime with just 470hp, 350 lbft, got a gripper in the end got sick of pulling bits of planet gears out.

these old supra diffs just want a check over they cant be expected to lock very well being pulled off a scrap pile and just chucked on lol

There not a cheap option in my opinion as the kit is what £450 and every idiot and there son couldnt wait to tell all the jap breakers what they wanted the diff for so they went up from £50-£100 to £250 + then a rebuild or at least a service so installed ect that is nearly 1k which is a quaife diff and a treated crown wheel ect

it all depends on what power your running,
if your staying below 400 id stick with the std diff,
if goin over 400 supra diff all the way,
your grippers, quaife etc will still break
I fitted one of them weir performance kits to my supra diff and it locks every time without fail
the weir kit only costs £40/£50
the car is also far better at putting the power down with it
imo it has to be the best mod for the money ,
fit and forget, well so far anyway lol
id like to hear some feedback from someone putting a lot of bhp through one

I ran 757 whp 636 wheel lbft through a small case supra mkiv diff on r888s and it never was an issue
they are good diffs far better than the tat ford saw fit to put on them lol

maybe a little more expensive now but tbh id be surprised if a cossie would be able to bust one as the c.w.p is huge ,
quaife, gripper still use the std cwp and it ll break treated or not with the right power,
my gripper broke the flange clean of the side and its goin to cost £500 to sort and I ve only 450bhp

The Supra Diff will be just fine for all but the most extreme use.
The Jaguar 10.5" is the strongest around & with Power Loc will give the best traction the drag boys use them with up to 1500bhp a few are fitted to Cossies.

Go for a supra diff mate , at that power you break your gripper/quaife unless you go easy on it , like I said my gripper broke at 450

Dan
Do you have any more info on the weir performance kit?
What exactly is it, as I'm expecting a supra diff shortly, and of this is kit is a cheap refurb, is it worth me fitting one as a matter of course?
Cheers

I've given mine so do or die launches and it's been perfect highly recommend one.

I'd definitely get it checked over and reconned before you fit it, I had the Stage 1 Wier kit fitted in mine and feels very nice.

I wouldn't consider anything else than a Supra diff if I owned a Cossie again. I went through 4 diffs with less than 400bhp, killed rebuilt ones and CWPs. I did drive it like an absolute hooligan, but that's why I bought a RWD Cossie in the first place
