Default Audi problem

My mate has an a4 estate which basically just died the other day.

It will start for about a second and then die.

Has anyone any suggestions he reckons its electrical but I reckon its fuel related as it starts but then dies.

Going to plug it in tomorrow but would be good to have some clue where yo look first

Cheers

Could be many things. What a4 is it? Petrol or diesel? Get it on a scanner and go from there.

First problem, its an Audi

Second problem, it definately sounds like fuelling issues. Maybe a fuel rail sensor? Fuel filter blockage? Or more than likely a fuel pump.

Similar problem with my e46 330d, and turned out to be all 3 problems. Hasnt missed a beat since

Mine's been great, 100k of almost trouble free motoring and still more squeak and rattle free than my Mrs 18 month old 207.

I would hazard a guess the immobiliser ring on the steering column is causing the problem. Which platform is it.

Been talking to a few people and they say its the key at fault.

Audis are usually bulletproof!

It has done 180k

Most cars are bullet proof if they have been looked after.

Most VW/Audi things if problem with immobiliser it will start and stop after a few secs.

Needs fault codes reading , no good guessing..

Usually shows up 17978/P1570/005488 if 'engine start blocked by immobiliser'.

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...8/P1570/005488

If key and or reader coil faulty possibly this code

I would like to bet someone has changed the keyfob battery and the immob chip has dropped out without being noticed (key type dependant) - seen loads like this.

If it starts and dies pretty much straight away then I'd hazard a guess at it being immobiliser related too.
