Quick shift??

B&M seem to be the ones people rate, although I'm sure rallydesign do one

Got the B&M one one mine at the mo and I hate it. It has very little tension in the neutral position and at the moment it has made things worse than a standard item. Its currently in bits whilst I look at modding it internally, failing that its going in the bin.

Got one of those fitted too 2.4 turns lock to lock. Makes steering a hell of a lot more precise when moving, but it virtually impossible to park at slow speeds. Came from Quaife over 10 years ago and has so far been re built 3 times upto now.

Virtually impossible to get a quaife quick rack or the quick rack kits anymore

But i got my quick rack from Rally design and its a top bit of kit

p.s the mk3 Escort rack is the same as the mk4 Escort rack (only the ratios are different) might help when your looking for a quick rack. Also IMO 2.4 or 2.6 turns lock to lock is about perfect for the escort, mine is 2.2 turns and very heavy under 20 mph but great above that speed

Tony, I'm kinda gutted to read that. I would like to know more. When you say 'very little tension in the Neutral position', what do you exactly mean?

No need for you to feel gutted at all Christian

With it fitted there is no tension at all in the neutral position. My std linkage springs back to below 3rd gear when you come out of any gear. Made it easy to select 1st as you throw it left and up to get first. With this used in anger I have found myself coming from 5th to 1st looking for 3rd. It can also get reverse straight down from 5th as there is no notch to push it down over.

I binned the two neutral spring tensioners from the normal linkage like it said, but I have it all in bits at the moment looking for a way to refit them again as it may save me a big engine rebuild if I keep it on.

Does yours do it ? Maybe its faulty in some way but it didn't impress me. Dont get me wrong the throw is shorter yes, but it is causing me big problems at the moment.

There must be something wrong, mine is absolutely spot-on. It sits perfectly below third gear and it always returns there without any problems. Because of how short it is, it is far harder to set up than a standard shifter as any adjustment is magnified. Did you follow the instructions to the word? i.e. Did you use their grease in all the right places? The Blue spherical bush is critical, was that fitted correctly with the O-Rings etc? Have you got any play in the cars linkage? Next time I see you at an event, you'll have to see what mine is like.

Yep thats exaclty the one i have got (apart from the ratios) I did say mine was a little bit too quick on the ratios so maybe they have adjusted them after my comments lol

Christian it is/was fitted correctly mate. The original linkage was brand new last year from Ford so I knew that was okay. I have fitted these to 3 Vauxhalls and a Seat Cupra upto now and know it should be better than it is. The blue bush fits fine and the circlip is okay. I think its to do with the centering stuff under the gearstick itself. Its in bits now so I doubt the warranty people would be too happy

I have made a large nylon bush in the lathe today to fit under the collar to tighten it - so will try that next.
