This came this morning, a new cam kit for the XR2. The notice inside says "do not allow engine to idle, hold revs at 2000-2500 RPM for 30 minutes. Is this actually necessary for a standard cam, or just performance cams? I ask because I read a guide on the Fiesta Turbo website that you might as well just run standard cams in with normal driving. Would appreciate if somebody who has installed new STANDARD tappets and a cam in a CVH could point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

Hi
Run in is needed for your cam too. The best way is to use cam lube, but I imagine most won't do this and get away with it just fine.
Install the cam with plenty of fresh oil on the lobes and journals (sp). Start the car up and hold the revs around 2500rpm, vary it up and down around that speed for at least 30 mins - just don't let it idle as this is when the loads on the cam lobes are highest apparently. After that I'd take the car out for a long drive on motorway or something where you won't be idling.
I'm sure someone with more experience will be along soon to embellish on this for you.
