Not exactly the same, but I've got a 330D M Sport on an 03 plate (204BHP). Great cars and I'd recommend them to anyone. It's a personal thing, but I just couldn't go out and buy a 320 when I could afford a 330! Every time I'd put my foot down I'd be thinking 'wonder what that feels like in a 330'. I KNOW I'd end up going out and buying a 330 before too long so it made sense to just get one off the bat!
You don't HAVE to get the swirl flaps removed but it's generally advised. Mine hadn't been done and I took it for an inspection 1 service recently and had them done at the same time. Can't remember how much it was now, not huge amounts though, mostly labour of course.
Common faults - hot starting issues seem to be a good one, mine had it. Turned out to be a faulty injector after loads of buggering about.
A guy at work gave me 3 pieces of advice when I was looking for mine (I was new to BMs and he's had his years) and it's rang true a number of times (much the same for any car but with some BWM parts costing what they do its worth remembering);
1) If you can't afford the maintenance don't buy the car
2) If anything needs doing get it done straight away
3) Take it to a BWM specialist
Number 3 would have saved me a fair chunk of cash with the old injector 'let's change everything else before working out what the problem actually is' project.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Can't argue with that 330d is a handsome car in coupe and salloon. I have a 530d and it's a corker
Get the flaps done it's an ok DIY job, and don't scrimp on the maintainence

Some brilliant advice there lads especially from matt 16v im looking at the 320cd for cheaper insurance fuel costs and tax. Not really bothered about power just want a quality car that looks well with lowish miles I think the 320 is 150bhp?

No problem
Yeah the E46 320D has 150 BHP I believe, and they probably go alright to be fair (never been in one) and if you're not bothered about the power and are about insurance costs etc then maybe that's the one to go for.
Good luck! Whether you get a 320 or a 330 I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

We've recently bought an Audi A3 SE TDi 170 41000 miles 7k. Its fooking quick and comfy at the same time whilst still returning 45+ mpg. Its as good as an S-line with all the toys/half leather etc but without the s-line price tag!!
Anything VAG for diesel imho!!
