Default 3 door prices

that thread about yb power got me thinking about cosies ive had and got me thinking about my 3 door I had.

it cost me £10k in about 2000, and I sold it in 2001 for £10k

it was mint and was genuinely specced for 500 hp with steve at a1 rallysport heavily involved in the build with the previous owner

just looking at some of the prices I see imagine what it would of been worth now !

proper sexy car I loved it but never enjoyed it that much as it was a lot of money at the time and I didn't want to damage it, saw some silly speeds in it but never really fully used it to its potential really.

would surely be a £20k car today in this condition still

Proper spec and looks good with them wheels and centre cut out of bumper. Even now a 500hp Cossie is still a very fast car.

Doubt it would have fetched 20k tbh, the ones that are going for top buck are standard, trust me on this. A 500bhp car is a very select market IMHO and a lot of folks avoid them.

As above , prices are over inflated , the 18 - 20 k ones are not actually selling
I see the same cars been advertised for ages on various sites.

Agreed, look at the amount of them for sale across the forums at the moment.

All strong money and none of them sold... Where as escorts selling nearly instantly. Strange.

very true, it was well priced at the time as it sold in less than a week on autotrader.

knowing what I know now it would of broke for parts for a lot more than £10k that's for sure ! it didn't need any boost capping straight in with iirc 28 psi and it loved it

when I was looking for a r33 gtr 2 years ago I looked at a white 750 hp one for £17500 but decided against it, that car is still for sale today on ebay for the same money ! crazy really.

Over inflated? In relation to what?

Have you seen the price of mk1 and mk2 escorts, rs1600i and s1 turbos?
No more 3k saffs. ...
They are all around 6k-10k now
Let alone the prices rs500s....

I think the prices reflect the market as a whole

As said above the high priced cars wont sell , most seem to be dealers that have no doubt took them in part ex and hold them for a long while .. Im in the market for a 3dr at the moment , looking for as close to an original a car as possible and don't intend to spend over 12k . Escorts have picked up massive money .. unsure why .

Agreed, they're always up for big money but how many people do you know have paid £20k for a 3 door.....? It's a minefield really, pretty much like any 'classic' retro car, people see one overpriced but nice example and they're seeing pound signs when they look at their own rotten one that needs an engine rebuild.
There are plenty of £15k cars out there than need at least £5k thrown at them to be anywhere near the asking price IMO, but if that's your bag then fair enough.

I broke mine for over 18k back in 2008 and doubt if it would sell for that now. I cringe at the thought I had it for sale for 13k back then for a whole three days before breaking it as it had some tasty bits on it!

Bet you miss it though. I had my Series 2 around the same time, and it took me 13 years to get another Fast Ford. And for all the mental Jap stuff Ive had in between, theres nothing quite like slipping into a Ford Recaro, and aiming for the sunset.

Nice looking 3 door, fast ford featured iirc, seen loads of 3 doors for sale recently, most in the £18 to £22k sort of area, but they've been there for ages, there is a nice one on pistonheads for £12k, I would of thought that would sell quite quickly (and its the best colour, blue).

I would rather have an escort cossie. The 3dr is special cause its the orginal but imo a escos is way more special.

I mean over inflated pricing by some owners, not just 3drs but all the cars you mentioned.
A lot of owners put these cars up for ridiculous money and that's why a lot of them don't sell.
A car is only worth what someone's willing to pay for it...
Yes prices on some cars will go up for sure but a lot of owners are dreaming, this is all just my opinion from my experiences....

Cheers Paul

hmm, the real value isn't as high as many of them are advertised for.
I think the value is falling slightly to be honest, doesnt seem to be the demand for them there was a few years ago.
Those who really want them are priced out.

Id like a 3rd I love the look of them but also really like the look of 2wd saffs as well. like I have no bonnet vents and orange lights. I think the saff with leather is much better inside as well but like people say there are some up for really strong money but they don't sell

I am guilty of being one of those ridiculous 3 door owner's that over value's his car but at the same time I do not see myself selling it.
The car is something I would pass on to my children and hopefully if they aren't as silly as me it could pay them.
I love the fact that the 3 door is and will alway's be the original Cosworth and I have a funny feeling that one day there will be less of these around than the 500's.

Happy with mine, love my time with her.

Tim.

The only cars that will fetch the top prices are the original cars with history, plenty of folk have cars nearly as good but that have had some kind of resto and try to sell them for the same and they either dot sell, hang round for ages or get broke.

You get what you pay for as with any car , if you want a nice car with the nice bolt on bits it costs money . Ive seen some right old dogs at the shows and people have paid silly money for them . 2004 I paid £7200 for mine and since then ive spent more than 20k on it over 10 years just to keep it a NICE tidy car .

this is very true and how I used to feel, but with heavily modified superfast cars the parts can be worth more than the car is as a whole, and with that in mind it can be used without worrying about when and where it is left anywhere

after all they are there to be used, not ornaments
