Default paint work question

Evening all;

got a red astra which has gone slightly pink on some panels; ive used t cut before to bring them back up but i havent got any left. i've got a big tub of cutting compound called G3. Can i use this to bring it back?

Its been years since i used it, from memory do you have to use water with it?

Better of using something like Megiuars 205/105 compound. Much better product and i'd use a machine polisher.

You can use it without water but its normally a bit harsh, so I would recommend using water with it to soften the blow to the paintwork, you could also wet sand it first with 2000 if the paintwork is still solid

When I did my brothers 306 daily smoker I found 2000 way too harsh. 5000 or 7000 would be better. But i'm not sure how well Vauxhall paint their cars.

to be honest i havent got the patience for paintwork, its only a cheap motor so not wanting to buy any more products, will just use what i've got.

i take it i only use a light spray of water rather than soaking the cloth & panel?

I normally apply the g3 to a damp cloth/pad

you got a polisher? ive one here you can borrow. I use it wet but its better to mask the shut lines and any vents or you will be cleaning it off for a week.

Once cut use a good polish to protect.

Give us a ring if you need it.

cheers Paul; i'll see how i go first on one panel then give you a shout if i need it, if thats alright.

My thinking was a polishing machine would flick the g3 everywhere! but doing it by hand ive got a bit more control.

Ive taken off the weather strips on the doors and the plastic trims that go from back off roof & down the windscreen

get some 3m fast cut plus if you go from g3 to fast cut i guarantee you will never use g3 again ever! does twice the job in less than half the time and its far easier to clean up afterwards can be used dry too tho i use just a little water
