i was always under the impression that if you weld cast iron it goes brittle and cracks, but cast steel can be welded spot on

You can cut and weld a 2wd Cossie exhaust, so whatever that is it can be done

You CAN do cast iron, but it is a bit tricky. You have to preheat the part, use a certain type of filler rod to do the welding, then cool it down VERY slowly to avoid cracking and minimize residual stress in the material

Steel is cake....simple

I`ve sucessfully welded a steel tube to a cast manifold (2.9 cosie).
No problem, used an arc welder.
Bit of heat distortion, won`t be a problem once skimmed.
It will be interesting to see how long it lasts!

What engine is it for mate ?? i did it some 5 years ago and it is still hanging fine. You need to heat it up to a dull red weld and cool very very slow.
