Default Suspension coil snapped?

Last Thursday I noticed some real bad creaking coming from the left hand side front wheel of my Y reg Fiesta. I thought it was my mudflaps at first because sometimes they obstruct the tyres when pulling off/turning slowly because two of the screws came out and allowed the flaps to move freely, however on Thursday this sound didn't go away and upon inspection I have discovered the left side coil has suffered catastrophic failure and wont even sit on the strut properly.....I don't really know an awful lot about cars but judging from the pics is it just a pair of new coils I'll be looking at????? I really can't afford anything more than the £100 I got for the parts and labour, I would do it myself but I lack the tools, knowhow or mate to help out on the job.....! Here is a link to one of the photo's http://s938.photobucket.com/user/Joe...tml?sort=3&o=0 Feel free to browse through and take a look at the problem.

Broken springs are a very common problem on most cars really, so it isnt unusual.

Prices really can vary. It isnt a big job to change, but some prices can be silly money, and yes ideally you would change both fronts at the same time.

Just check through the likes of egay and you'll see rough prices for parts

You mean just the coils or the shocks too? I was already aware of doing both coils at same time, but don't really have the cash to do the shocks :/

If the shocks are in good condition, there is no need to change them

No need to change the shocks too, don't buy the cheapest springs you can find as they won't last long, but a pattern part from euro car parts or something will be fine. A garage will probably charge an hour and a half labour to do the job i'd have thought. Don't even consider driving it until it's repaired, chances are the loose end of the spring will end up in the tyre.

Even half the stuff ECP sell are cheap dung too.

Sometimes parts from the dealer can be surprisingly priced too, so always worth asking. Although a lot of the time springs are dear

True, however the parts should come with a guarantee, if it fails again then you just pop along to your local store and get the part replaced. A bit more difficult to do with parts from China via ebay!

The guy I spoke to about the job said the coils were "sachs" or something I think. He said these were pretty much the same as the oem ones or at least to the same spec

I never suggested to buy from egay, just to take a look to get an idea of prices.

For springs for a standard car, I'd try and buy from the dealer unless their prices are mental.

Yup, nothing wrong with Sachs
