Would love to have one, but seeing the space under the bonnet, I'd hate to work on one!

i currently own the one in my avatar, great fun especially at 230+bhp

they are becoming pretty rare now there was around 500 or so officially registered last time i checked, but more people myself included seem to be fully restoring them instead of scrapping atm.

certain parts are finally starting to get to silly prices and this is turn will be having an effect on the cars values and im all for it.

engines are dead easy to work on in fact one of the easiest cars iv owned to work on for all aspects, also one of the easiest engines to tune and get gains from when done properly and not with the old tuner bs group a this n that.

That's my Raider which I have owned the past 5 years, shit old pictures like but the only ones I have of it. Been sat neglected in my garage for the past 3 years or so, always keep meaning to get it out and back on the road. Maybe this year
Cracking little cars, nippy aswell although not sure what power mine is had a few bits and pieces done to it but nothing radical. Always gets loads of looks on the road too.

Any tips or links on what are good mods for these, without breaking the bank. Athough I have been saying this for the past couple of years, wouldn't mind getting it back on the road and maybe on the track.

when I blew the gearbox in my old RS I had the car recovered by C&S recovery,
He took my car 120miles to my dads in Wiltshire, Turns out the recovery man used to part own an R5 tuning company. Think it was 5alive iirc. He mentioned they were the first people to carry out a 1.9 conversion on the R5. He said the business partnership went stale and he allowed his mate to buy him out.

A lad i know in Blackpool had one. Purple with the Carisma kit, 19's, straight through side exit exhaust and had the Volvo 1700 lump in it running about 350 bhp I think. It was awesome.

What's the issue with them being unreliable? Was it just people upping the boost and doing sod all else?

I really like these, nice ones ar going for really good money now, remeber back in the day you couldnt buy an issue of max power without having one with a carisma bodykit featured, very tunable little engine, would really like one.

i think the main problem with them was th liners and headgasket problems ,caused by bleed valve technology

it was just to easy to turn the boost up lol

they were good cars but above 100 mph they were no match for the uno turbo I bought later on.

i currently have 230bhp, i know another guy has 234bhp in an extra van which has covered a load of miles and another good friend had 236bhp and ran this hard for 2.5yrs.

i know people have had a tad more on oe pistons/liners, as long as the fuelling etc etc is done properly there really isnt any need for forged internals

spot on, people used to run double or more than oe boost and not alter anything fuelling wise, luckily the hg used to let go instead of it taking a whole bottom end with it.

the knowledge on the tuning of the solex carb is a hell of alot better than back in the 90s thats for sure.

The red one, with bonnet vents on the 1/4 panels??? That was built by Europarts. And was rebuilt a few years back by ECC in Northern Ireland

My pal has a raider bb tuning 200 ish bhp. Fastest shed around. Lol until modern engines were about... It ran a 13.8 on race fuel but it is still very shonky build compared to say a vw golf of the the same year. Death trap

Hi had a Raider for over 5 years G731 YNB had it tuned to nearly 230bhp in car variable boost 14-22psi with a MD28 hybrid turbo, group A carb, magnex exhaust, green group A cone filter, other than a dump valve & big brakes, it was Bog standard lump not even modified head gasket!!!! & the only thing that kept letting me down was the pert fan.... It was mental would spin in 1st 2nd & 3rd on full boost, with Yokohama A520s on, I luved it grate fun & nearly killed me sister in it!!!!! Whilst on full chat trying to shit her up.... Which worked as I smashed it through a farmers fence I had it all fixed sold it & bought my sapphire 4x4 cosworth. & I'll never sell this.
But I'd have another 5 Turbo & recommend 1 to everyone

God awful dashboards, My brother had a red one. From the day I set my eyes on it, it became the ugliest tackiest interior I have ever seen in a car. The dash is pathetic and the seats, for a top of the range car are rubbish too. But then Renault have always fit nasty seats in their Renault Sport range.

For a small Hot hatch, as mentioned above i'd rather have the FRST.

The pug 205 1.9 GTi on the otherhand is the greatest car to come from the French.
