Default VIC checks

Hi guys

I've bought a e46 convertible off a friend it's a cat d from the insurance company and it needs a vic check. It's literally a small dent in rear quarter and bumpers cracked! I've got some questions.

I've read that they don't actually look at work they just check the identity is this correct?

Can I drive the car until the vic check?

I know I can't tax the motor until a vic checks done it dosent need taxing till June anyway.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers Andy

a cat D shouldn't need a vic test unless they change the system, as far as i'm aware only cat C needs a vic

A lot of the VOSA sites are closing at the end of March so check the websites to see if that affects you.

Nope they don't check the work carried out just make sure the car is what it's supposed to be and all the numbers match up. Went with my fiesta a few years ago and taking another car for one next week traders take cars there mid repair so it's ready to go by the timetable repairs are done. The actual test only takes about 10 mins

You just need to apply for the logbook on a cat d and put a fresh mot on it...

Same as normal, just fill in your details either on the green slip if you got it or by a v62(???) form, send in your £25 if you don't have the green slip there's no need to mention anything.

Also Vic (which is irrelevant to cat d) is VEHICLE IDENTITY CHECK and does no checks on vehicle condition.

Also not all cat C's require a VIC, it's up to the DVLA.
