Default driver fined £100 for taking a break

just had a story on itvwest about a chap who felt tired while driving in the early hours on the M4, so pulled into the next services (fleet services) and had a nap, unfortunatly his nap lasted more than the 2 hour limit of free parking, he recieved a £100 fine/charge for not paying for his over stay

I do loads of brake downs there on Daf aid and quite a few times I've had to go the security office to show I've been working on a truck so me or the driver don't get fines

Dont pay it simple. Its private so they can't do anything.

Or cover your plates when you leave so it doesnt catch you on the way out as its automated and pull off the next slip road and plates back on.

It does take the piss though. Especially as you get fined for doing as the government asks by taking a break when tired.

I've had quite a few when I've broken down.

You have no obligation to pay them!

The rules have now changed. You can no longer just "ignore" as per before, but have to go through POPLA.

http://www.popla.org.uk/

The net result is still the same but there is a bit more legwork involved. Moneysavingexpert forum is fantastic for info, they have step by step guides and can advise how to get out of them.

But yes, they are thieving cunts. They only need a small percentage to cough up unfortunately to make it worth their while regardless if a large proportion contest and get them cancelled.

I got one from a hospitel car park.

what I dont understand is they wouldn rather waste several hundreds of pounds chasing thousands.

Heres 10,000. Go chase after .1p

One hospital spent over 250,000 chasing 80,000. Nice Tax payers money for 1 hospital car park!

it's all about principles, and they want your money at all costs

fooking hospital parking, my mums local hospital charged me £4 for just over an hour, my brother stayed 2 hours for £5, you get a ticket, the barrier go up on entry, when you want to leave you put the ticket in the ticket reader machine, which in 2 seconds it wants fooking £4, if you dont pay you cant leave as the barrier wont go up, nice little earner
