Default Just a thought..

Is there a reason as to why people prefer to turbo Zetecs instead of supercharging them?
I can imagine space will be an issue in Fiesta's and Escorts, but for the price you can get some Eaton chargers for, it seems daft not to consider it? I'm not talking a low boost system either, but with forged internals surely you could push some good numbers.
Can anyone shed some light? I'd assume the little Cooper S chargers would be too small, but what about the Jag ones?

Ben.

Think it's because cvhs were always turbos so it seems the natural progression

The first zetec turbos all had 'adapted' cvh bits on them so was simpler.

Now with he far that sabre can fully map a std eeciv ford ecu to run boost there no reason that a supercharger wouldn't offer similar gains, and a often simpler install.

I ran an eaton m45 (mini cooper s) then 62 (merc) on my blacktop before switching to turbo... When you spin the eatons up to speed they produce so much heat that you need a massive FMIC. So, space becomes an issue. Or get a different brand of sc...I.e not a roots charger, but then they're expensive.

In short, the cheap superchargers aren't the best.

What numbers did it produce on an M45? I've got a silvertop sat in the garage and it got me thinking about a cheap bit of fun in something like a mk3 Fiesta as they can still be picked up for peanuts.
As to the heat issues, would a charge cooler be a better proposition? Also water injection?

I ran water injection and fmic to get it safe. WI came on if temps rose above 35
Degrees. Made 180 ish I think .... Even over spinning the m45 (smaller puller pushed it to 16,000rpm when engine was at 7k - eaton say max should be 14krpm) it would only make 7psi with the fmic)

M62 is far better suited to the 2.0 engine. Easy to fit .... I bolted mine where the ac pump used to go.

Interesting, was that on standard internals?

I'll have a look at M62's, what were they fitted to?

Think they're from a C230 kompressor. They have an electronic clutch pulley which needs taking off, and a new smaller pulley put on. I stripped and rebuild mine with new bearings....only sold it last year too.

And yeah was a completely standard 2.0 blacktop.

The M62 is quite a rare 'charger to get hold of. Plenty of people claim they are selling one on eBay until you check the Eaton part number.

Having driven a Powerworks supercharged Zetec, which used an M62 and made 270bhp it was awesome. M45 is way too small to get anything good out of a 2.0 Zetec, Mike Johnson with the Mk1 Fiesta proved that. Don't think he could get it above 160bhp or so no matter what he did with pulleys etc.. He's now fitting an M90 from a Jag.

They do seem to be hard to come across.

Is there anything else between the M45 and M90? I'd assume the Jag one would be too big for what I've got ideas for.

Not as far as I know. M62s do come up, you just have to have a sharp eye. I've seen one or two pass through eBay but generally they go for a couple of hundred pounds because others know what they are. There are more M62s available on American eBay as it seems they came in a few other cars over there.
