Got the new turbo bolted on! After a nightmare getting this stripped

After new turbo fitted she still smoking like a bitch real bad! Thick white smoke, turbo was primed and oil pressure was in the money before she was fired up!

This leads me to suspect the valve stem seals are fucked?

Any ideas?

Valve stem seals will not cause that.

You need someone competent to carry out some diagnosing of the problem. Because trying it remotely here, just isnt working.

Lol , yes I have had many problems but I'm not gona shift her as I have practically replaced every part almos with new!

The cam belt did jump a tooth but the car runs perfect and smooth and doesn't make any strange noises!
The exhaust was filled up with oil yes!
Let her run or an hour or so and give it some welly up the road only to find the road was smoked out for a good ten mins lol , still smoking 2 hrs later whilst idling

So you've driven it for a while, does it make boost now ?

Remove plugs, do a compression test ( throttle must be open ). Post picture of plugs.

And is the cooling system operating normally, no excessive pressure, no coolant loss ?

Boosts up very well!

Plugs are still brand new and compression test is 150lbs each cylinder give or take a pound or 2

Engine wasn't leaking any fluid and the temp wasn't building up!
Coolant stays at lvl

Oil lvl has dropped !

Frustrating mate! Heads coming off this week sometime and I'm gonna get to the bottom of this!

Valve stem seals seems the only option I can think of!

Was it a re-con turbo or second hand?

Is the 'new' turbo passing oil through?

I can think of plenty more...and the last would be stem seals.

And you wont be any happier having to remove the head lol It's another fucking nightmare !

Between stupid fucking supports for the intake manifold and the wiring loom. Nightmare.

But at least the exhaust manifold will come off easier now lol

Your engine's fucked. It's broke a piston. That's a more important piece of info than the smoke.

Pistons are cheap from Toyota though, although the head and sump are a bastard to get off.

Just hope it hasnt bust a liner..although it doesnt sound like it.

Yes and no.

Without doing the test myself, it's far harder to state from someone elses results.

And without hearing the engine again hard to say.

Any broken pistons I replaced still had good compression, well, just every so slightly down, and took a little longer to reach max.
But the idle wasnt as smooth as it used to be, and under certain circumstances there was a very light tick noise from the broken piston.

But they werent broken enough to cause the smoking issue you're having.

Diagnosing does largely boil down to experience.

But if it's pressurising the crankcase and spewing oil into the air filter....that is never a good sign.

Sounds like excessive crank case pressure, caused by piston blow by, your pistons will most probably be cracked along the skirt, time to fully forge her!!! Mines running fully forged internals but from memory a piston is only Ł97 + vat from Toyota

Ceramic ones are the ones that break the easiest.

It was a long time ago, but pistons when I was doing them were about Ł35-40 each from Toyota !

In general, a lot of parts were really cheap.

If you luck after them there ok this one had only done around 60000 km, And pull The Dipstick Out Whist Running And See If She's Breathing Heavy, You Could Remove The Breather Tempo To See If It Cures The Smoke This Would Indicate Rings Or Pistons

I have seen a stroker skit with forged weisco pistons for 538Ł on eBay capable of 80bhp obviously I'd need a bigger turbo, fuel pump etc

I would have to check mine to see where it goes but you will have some pipework that plumbs your crankcase emissions back into the inlet side it's around the right side of the inlet from memory plum it into a coke can or something so the oil doesn't go back into the inlet also have your tried a leak down test and you did do the compression test whist the engine was warm not hot?
