Yes and no.
Without doing the test myself, it's far harder to state from someone elses results.
And without hearing the engine again hard to say.
Any broken pistons I replaced still had good compression, well, just every so slightly down, and took a little longer to reach max.
But the idle wasnt as smooth as it used to be, and under certain circumstances there was a very light tick noise from the broken piston.
But they werent broken enough to cause the smoking issue you're having.
Diagnosing does largely boil down to experience.
But if it's pressurising the crankcase and spewing oil into the air filter....that is never a good sign.
