my old man has just got a Mk3 Cabriolet. its got a cracked windscreen so will need a new one for MOT.

are cabriolet windscreens any different to normal ones? will a Mk4 fit a Mk3?

i stand a better chance getting one from a Mk4 hatchback than a Mk3 Cab.

any ideas?

the mk4 and mk3 are the same, even the 4door and 5 door are the same, the only diference are some are heated

As said, shape wise they are the same, colour was also different tho

Mk3 only had clear or bronze tint, mk4 only had clear or green, (mk5+6 had clear or green aswell)

So if you want it to match you need to work out what tint you have (best, hold a sheet of plain white paper behind glass and look fron outside) and get a matching one - so a mk4 screen will only match if your cab is clear and the mk4 clear also (unlikely, most cabs had bronze)

not true as most cabrios actualy had clear tint as they wasnt xr3i's

also mk5 cabrios that wasnt xr3i had clear tint ( including my tennis and all white cabrio )

the max powered cabrio has green tint but the fooking cars green

Odd, most of the cabs I have changed screens on have been bronze in mk3's and green in mk4's) but that not to say your arne't right ginge - which is why I said

mk3 = bronze/clear
mk4 = green/clear
mk5 = green/clear
mk6 = green/clear

A lot fo non XR/RS Escorts had tinted glass tho - very rare now to find a clear mk5/6 car (I do a lot of door glass for them, not so many mk3/4's now tho) but done a few mk3/4's with tinted glass that ain't clear

thrush feel free to pop round the garages as i got 2 mk4 cabrios with clear glass and got a mate ( guy who ya was chatting to when ya wanted rid of ya first S1) with a mk3 cabrio but remember they wasnt xr3i's, they was 1.6i or 1.6 carbs only

is there a way to find out if its an XR or not? it does have spats, but they may have been put on later.

i'll have to check the glass colour tomorrow

But I do fit glass for a living so I do see a lot of cars and generally get to know what glass is most use don what cars....

Now I know nuffin about bikes which is why you never see my trying to prove you wrong when it comes to them, so givre it a break will ya?

Only trying to help the original poster out FFS - nothing worse that getting the wrong screen and it looking shit is there?

Oh and there were XR3i cabs Maybe not on log book, but Ford did have em in the showrooms and from the factories badged up as 3's / 3i's with all 3/3i options

and they NEVER made a xr3 or 3i cabrio on mk3, just like my cabrio is badged up with RS badges on it, its not a RS just makes me look a tw@

Ah yes, but YOU added the RS badge on the cab whereas it was Ford who added the XR badges to the cabs (just the log books didn't say anything other that 1.6 or 1.6i)

And I ain't got out my pram chap - there is very little on the internet that could get me out of my pram anyway...
