Default Another what car thread

Looking for advice on a car for the missus. She's got £4-4.5k to spend and the only criteria she says is she wants something where she's high up.

Really what she wants is some sort of soft-roader, good on fuel, reasonable to run and have room for the dog, pram and nine week old baby. I know it's not a lot of money for what she's after - ideally she wants a Range Rover or something like that but anything like that in her budget is too old. She'll not be interested in anything pre-2006.

I thought on some sort of Qashqui type thing but the budget has fucked me. Any ideas?

I suggested a Volvo or Skoda estate but she said no estates or cross countrys of any kind.

my missus has a hyundai terracan, good solid motors, great ground clearance and big boot space. an 06 plate on around 60k should be within your budget

That's what I said!

She's now looking at Grand Vitaras and a Kia Sportage. Had thought on a CRV but seems to be over budget for a decent one.

Have never heard of the Hyundai one before, worth a look.

Edit - she's locked in on Rav 4s and Vitaras

An X5 or Discovery are the two that I would have but I'd expect to have a bigger budget for a decent one so had discounted them. Would rather have a fully specced X5 or Disco 3 and spend the extra money but I'm not selling my own car and adding to the pot.

A xc90 at that price will be scrap imo. I viewed 4 for a customer at work, cheapest iirc was £9000 ish dearest nearly 11k. We gave up trying to find a good one.

The Terios and Panda are both too small IMO.

She's locked in on a Vitara now and might need to up her budget to £5k for a decent one. The only thing that worries me about that is how it'll be on fuel as a few people have told me that it's pretty poor.

Had thought on an XC90 but didn't think I'd find any within budget, even with Moon milage
