Default Transit starter problem

My transit is eating starters!

First problem was power steering pump leaking so replaced pump and put another new starter on.

2 weeks later it went again, then i noticed the lad who did the pump didnt tighten up the breather pipe up enough so waste oil had go onto it and ruined another one so fixed that and put ANOTHER starter on.

So that was 2 weeks ago so at a job today turn the key and this starter started spinning!!!!

Started it say 4-5 times after that and been okay but what could it be ruining this startrer? Cant see anymore leaks?

Tempted to sell it and get another as need it for work can't afford to be off the road or breakdown at a job really!!

Any suggestions??

2000- Transit starters fail if clutch and flywheel worn as dust gets into the starter you should get a tech note in any replacement starter, it's been going on for years.
We have had so many back and telling the customer that it's not a warranty does not go down well.

As above, lots of swarf floating about in the bell housing and in effect the starter is a big magnet that attracts the swarf.

I had a feeling it was something like this. Its a 51 plate with 198k on the clock. It makes a hell of a rattling sound low down in the gears say 35mph in fourth etc and i had read on here that it could be the DMF!

Im not even going to ask how much that would be to fix!

Anyone have a transit for sale?

You can put a solid flywheel conversion in, some people like them, others don't

I know a man who welds a few up a week. Never had a come-back on them.

yours has a solid flywheel as standard , so can rule out dual mass failure . i'd still check for fillings though or leaking slave cylinder
