BMW 330D problems
Hey Everybody!!
Seeming as this is Passionbmw now im asking a question??
Im just wondering if anyone has a clue as to what my auto box problem is??
First off it started slipping then lost drive?? So i code read the ecu an it came up with gear monitoring 3?
So i cleared it an tryed to drive which it did went through all the gears fine? But when i came to a stop it lost drive again? No codes logged at all? Restarted after half an hour an it pulled away? but as soon as i stopped it lost drive again?
Real pissed off as only had it a month!! Any BMW Techs in here??
Thanks

i have no idea on bmw's, but what colour is the oil in the box? if its balck or brown and smells burnt then change it.
my friends merc auto box did the same thing, changed the oil which improved things for a few weeks but same happened, checked the oil and it was black/brown again
it was a fucked box basically

There sealed for life gearboxes! But people have said change the oil an filter! Not really wanting to chuck money at a busted box! But just found it wierd after I reset it! It ran fine??
Thinking of going do the dealers I bought it from to say about it! As ive only had it four weeks!

I'd get the car straight back to the dealer, oh and don't tell you've wiped the codes and that just play dumb as they'll do anything to get out of paying out for a new box.
Is it a E46 btw? As they are prone for failure on the autos...

Euro car parts do an oil filter service kit for your gearbox if it helps, I think about 170+vat last time I purchased one but includes the oil, new plastic sump with bolts, filter, correct meyle oil and a few rubber bungs needed. Much cheaper than buying all Seperate from the dealer.
If it's your gearbox then you're gonna be looking 800-1200 to recon plus labour and new oil.

Rang the dealer! An he said he will have a look at it! So thats good news but Im hoping he isnt going to bodge it! As he say its not the gearbox! It could be the alternator screwing with the box's ecu lol

Glad they are willing to take a look at it for you, hope you manage to get sorted.
But RE: the gearbox, if it isn't that and does turn out to be something else I would suggest having it serviced anyway if you're intending on keeping for a while, although BMW say it's lifetime oil, i think it is normally around 100k/10 years that a gearbox service is advised.
