Don't take it so personally. We've all been there. It will be well worth it when you can afford the car you want. I'm now 25 and can only just afford a saff cossie. I can honestly say it has definitely been worth the wait

Insurance is not a charity or a right its a business of insuring risks. You are many times more likely to have a claim than I am, ive 49 years ncb so have earned the right to cheaper insurance. Throwing your toys out of the pram with a tirade of abuse wont change anything the facts are there for all to see.

I thought you paid over £1000 rod for your saph

With your age I would have thought you'd be charging them for a policy

My lad's 19 and he's just insured his new Mk1 Focus RS for just under £1500 for the year.

Shopping around is the name of the game..

3 years ago he was paying £2500 TPFT on a 1.2 Corsa

he's been driving since he was 17 (20 in a few weeks). his insurance has always been in his name so he's racked up 3 years NCB.
His mum's a named driver on the policy, which does bring the price down (more so than if I was a named driver on it!)

Gone are the days when you could go on your parents policy like I did when I was 17 and had a rover sdi 3500 v8 which I promptly wrote off I might add

Like already said mate don't get frustrated easier said than done I know but have a shop around you're bound to sort something out

Age can also work against you at the other end of the scale too as my 78 year old mother found out as you get into the over 70 bracket you become as much risk as a younger person, so watch out Mr Tarry your days of cheaper premiums are coming to an end lol

we looked at fiesta 1250's when he first started to drive, but they were a little too pricey to insure, that's why we went for the Corsa. it's been a good little car, it's lead a very hard life (been Cat C'd 3 times!), but it served its purpose. Plenty of em out there, and they're a piece of piss to repair.

If you want to drive early, there's not much choice but to bite the bullet for a couple of years until the costs come down a bit.

Loads of factors come into it mate, your age firstly and lack of experience, many (including my self back then) young drivers are out ragging their motor and having fun but without the experience of what can go wrong and how to avoid or control it, all young drivers think they are perfect drivers and that means they can come unstuck.

They are also more likely to be out all the time driving round unlike older farts who are sat on their sofa of an evening so if you are on the road more, you are more likely to be in a bump.

The type of car, anything raced up or with XR or ST etc in the title is going to cost more. Also types of cars that are pranged more or stolen more will cost more to insure.

The insurance isn't so bothered about the cost of your car, they are bothered about the cost of the damage you may cause - ie your car is worth say £1k, but you write off a £50k Merc.

As said, keep trying different firms and not just rely on compare sites.

As said, insurance is a business, if you were in their shoes, who would you rather cover, a middle aged man with an average car who hasn't had a bump in years, or a fresh driver in an XR? Which is more likely to come and bite you in the ass with a big accident claim?

My first car was a proper granddad spec rover 216 gsi, it was pretty dull but would easily see off all my mates in their 106's, novas, ax's etc, and was cheaper to insure.

Just grin and bear it, I'm 30 now and my old 300 bhp focus ST I could insure for £350 fully comp all mods declared.

Fair point but if I was in there shoes I would give everyone a chance first time say 1k average 2k max as long it's not bigger than 1.8 with no mods each crash goes up say 300 or summit not hit with 3k or 6

But that's me living in a dream world

Must be have herd of that before

More motors that get stolen from that area or post code make it a high risk

But I rang an insurance company about my ped once asked why it was more expensive than a crosser they said the ped more easy to steel lol

Urm don't think so sum how a crosser cut ignition wires scrap steering lock and either bump it or kick start it drive it away

Peds are nearly the sane but are less Likely to get robbed as no one want a ped the want a crosser

Theirs a pretty good reason why it's high for younger drivers, statistics show they are a big risk. Just drive smaller cars until you have a few good years NCB under your belt, annoying but we've all been there.

if your moaning abut the price of a standard xr3i, how the hell are you going to insure what ever car you put that engine in?

It is all relative I am afraid.

I thought the same about insurance when I started driving 34 years ago.

I got insurance for an MG Midget 31 years ago and it cost me 400 tpft. A hell of a lot of money then, but as I realised if I wanted to drive sporty cars, as it was then, I had to pay the price for it.

What you got to understand is your trying to insure a car that used to get knicked and written off on a daily basis, just keep shopping around m8

I pay just over 2k a year for my traders insurance and I'm nearly 30 which is a joke
